Birthstone? Zodiac Gemstone? Which Gemstone To Choose?
The age-old question of which gems suit which people, or which gemstone above all others corresponds to a particular character has lost none of its importance of the last seven thousand years.
Although magic has lost its power for many people, the increasing individuality has rediscovered and reevaluated the special nature of the treasures of gemstones.
Random gemstone categorization of this type have always made it difficult for jewelers to provide their customers with ornamental gems which suited them. The result was a wealth and confusion of equally valid birthstone charts that a specially convened world conference of jewelers was called upon to decide which gem should be assigned to which month. However, the 1913 jewelers' convention was unable to reach a decision. They allowed the different rulings to remain in place.
The ancient order of the Babylonians (this was when the signs of the zodiac and birthstones first emerged) was only retained for a few gemstones. Nevertheless some jewels had already been assigned to specific signs of the zodiac with a certain amount of regularity for centuries.

Glossary of Gemstone Terms
Gemstone and Jewelry Glossary of Terms
The minerals of the earth provide priceless treasure - however, few minerals are used just as they come from the ground, most require some changes to make them useful. Gemstones must be cut and polished before their true beauty shows.
Alloy - a mixture of two or more metals or a mixture of a metal with another substance. 925 sterling silver is actually a combination of 92.5% silver and an alloy of 7.5% of copper or another metal. The addition of the alloy helps to enhance your silver jewelry and does not in any way detract from its quality.
Cabochon - a gem cut so that the stone has a smooth rounded top, a flat bottom and no facets. The usual shape for cabochons are round or oval, though they may be found in other distictive shapes.
Carat - the unit of weight for gems. One carat equals 0.2 grams (0.007 ounces) or 200 milligrams.
Clarity - a measure of how clear and free of flaws a gemstone is.
Cut - the shape in which a gem is finished. Common cuts include the round, marquis, pear, heart and emerald. A person who cuts and polishes gemstones is called a lapidary. There are two basic types of finished stones: faceted stones and cabachons.
Facet - (noun) one of the small, flat, polished surfaces on a cut gem.
Facet - (verb) to cut or grind facets on a gemstone.
Gem - a beautiful, rare and durable mineral that has been cut and polished for use as a jewel.
Girdle - the wides section of a faceted stone. The top and bottom facets come together at the girdle.
Luster - the way the surface of a stone looks when it reflects light.
Minerals - solid materials that naturally occur on Earth, other planets, moons and meteorites. There are approximately 3,000 different kinds of minerals on Earth, but only about a hundred are common.
Vitreous - have a glassy luster.

February's Birthstone Is Amethyst

The color purple is traditionally the color of royalty and amethyst has been used since the dawn of history to adorn the rich and powerful monarchs and rulers.
Leonardo Da Vinci wrote that amethyst was able to dissipate evil thoughts and quicken the intelligence. And, because amethyst was thought to encourage celibacy and symbolize piety, the amethyst gemstone was very important in the ornamentation in the churches in the Middle Ages.
In the past, great importance was attached to protection against passion: people hoped that by wearing an amethyst ring, they would be able to control their own boiling blood.
Amethyst was considered to be the stone of bishops and they still often wear amethyst jewelry.
The amethyst gemstone is said to bring serenity and calm, to enhance one's ability to assimilate new ideas, and to assist during meditation.
Ancient Amethyst Lore
The ancient Greeks left us this myth about how amethyst got it's color. An angry Greek god, Bacchus, swore to have his tigers eat the first person he saw. He spotted a girl named Amethyst walking in the forest and had his beasts attack. The maiden called to the goddess Diana for help. Diana changed the girl into a statue to save her from being eaten. Bacchus was then sorry for Amethyst and poured wine on her stone image, staining it purple. This may have some connection to the legend that wearing amethyst will prevent you from getting drunk. The Greek word amethystos means "not drunk".
February's Birthstone is the Amethyst as well as Aquarius' Zodiac Gemstone
Birthstones may also be selected based on the Day-Of-Birth and Wednesday is the Amethyst gem.
If the February born shall find
Sincerity and piece of mind
Freedom from passion and from care
If she the Amethyst will wear.
---Trad birthstone rhyme

Amazing Silver Jewelry
Silver, along with precious and semi-precious gemstones, is valued for it's strength, beauty and value.
Silver jewelry has been shown adorning the human form in the various records of history for as long as we have had recorded history. And, probably, long before that.
Silver jewelry, with or without gemstones, has been worn and displayed throughout generations of people across all nations from kings and queens to the 'man on the street'.
Jewelry is one of the preferred ways to display one's own creative inspirations, beauty and style in a very personal art form.
In fashion we tend to look at clothing, hair styles and makeup first, but it's the jewelry that makes such a lasting statement. It's a beautiful adornment, a glamorous statement, as well as a loving memento that can be passed down throughout generations.
Silver jewelry is one of the constants that remain throughout history.
What is the amazing secret of silver? It's not only its stunning, shining, lively attraction -- it is one of the commodities that existed before paper money, and silver will retain it's value long after currencies are gone.

Press Release for Beautiful Silver Jewelry.com
Beautiful Silver Jewelry.com (http://beautifulsilverjewelry.com) carries handcrafted designs that can't be found in any mall or department store. They're sold exclusively on the Internet at www.beautifulsilverjewelry.com, one of the most popular jewelry sites online.
"Our designs are tasteful, elegant, where we're added our own approach to classic motifs, with a custom flair," Ingraham says. we offer a wide variety of pendants, earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
Each piece features dramatic sterling silver settings for some of the world's most brilliantly-colored gemstones: in combinations of blue topaz, garnet citrine, iolite, amethyst, peridot, green quartz and multi gemstone combinations. We also carry luminescent moonstone and elegant black onyx and lapis luzuli.
Ingraham's Internet-only approach is succeeding. The site's sales from repeat customers are one of their fastest growing segments. "Once new customers have the jewelry in their hands, they often return to her site to order more," says Ingraham. "It's difficult for anyone to order something so delicate and personal from the Internet without seeing it in person. But once
they see our quality, they're always very pleased."
How can an online site compete with stores where customers can see the products in person? "This is one of the benefits we have. Because we don't pay thousands a month in rent like stores do, our site can offer much higher quality jewelry than stores can at prices they can't come close to."
"I get many emails from delighted customers who love their new jewelry. That's why it feels so great to be in this business."
